PRESS RELEASE ON HUDSON CITY DEMOCRATS NEW CHAIR
The Hudson City Democratic Committee met on Wednesday February 20th, 2008 to elect a new Chair, due to the vacancy created by the resignation of C. Christopher Haun. Committee Member Victor Mendolia (Hudson 2nd Ward), was elected to the Chair position unanimously by those present. Chairman Mendolia then resigned his committee seat and nominated Wanda Hughes Pertilla to represent the Democrats of the 2nd Ward. Ms. Pertilla was then elected to her seat unanimously by those present.
Mr. Mendolia, has been active for many years in the Democratic party. He managed his first campaign for a Long Island County Legislator at age 14 and worked on many other political campaigns over the years. He also ran for a seat on the New York City Council in 2001. Wanda Hughes Pertilla was elected to the Hudson Common Council this past November and was chosen by her Democratic colleagues on the Common Council to the position of Majority Leader. She is a longtime resident of Hudson's 2nd Ward.
Chairman Mendolia on his election and the appointment of Wanda Hughes Pertilla:
"I am thrilled to take on the challenges that being Chair of the Hudson City Democratic Committee brings. I am tremendously grateful for the Committee Members who supported my election and to all of Hudson's Democrats for entrusting me with this very important position. My immediate goals are to continue to unite the party and to solidify and improve upon the gains we have made. This is a tremendously exciting year for Democrats. Now is the time for us to come together. The tipping point for Democrats is just ahead. We will win the Presidency. Only two more seats are needed for Democrats to take the State Senate this year. Next year we can easily take the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. It is a great time to be a Democrat.”
“It has been my great honor to nominate and see the committee appoint Wanda Pertilla to the seat I have just vacated representing Hudson's 2nd Ward. Alderman Pertilla has quickly made her mark on the Common Council including being selected by her peers on the Council as Majority Leader. I and the entire committee are extremely excited that this dynamic new leader has chosen to add to her substantial work load and bring her talents and perspective to the work of the Hudson City Democratic Committee. We are thrilled to have her on board"
