At the Democratic caucus held early this evening, the Democratic members of Hudson's Common Council elected Alderman Ellen Thurston as their new leader. She steps into the shoes filled the previous term by Alderman Wanda Pertilla.Following the caucus, incoming Common Council President, Don Moore called the Common Council to order and commenced its organizational meeting where the Council formally reconstituted itself and approved committee assignments and rules of order for the coming term.
Mr. Moore read a statement of direction which emphasized his commitment to the economic development of the city and county.

The Hudson City Democratic Committee congratulates and thanks Alderman Thurston for putting herself forward for this important position.
The committee also wishes to thank Alderman Pertilla for serving in the role last term. Her leadership has been crucial to bringing the renewed sense of purpose and civility that the Council now begins the 2010 term with.
