Didi Barrett Addresses Columbia County Gay Community and Supporters

On Wednesday October 20th 2010, State Senate candidate Didi Barrett addressed members of Columbia County's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community and their supporters. Victor Mendolia, chair of the Hudson City Democratic Committee, organized the event which was held at the magnificent Inn at Hudson.

During her speech she called out her opponent Stephen Saland saying “You can’t say you support gay rights but don’t support gay marriage.”

In addition to Ms. Barrett, Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell also addressed the crowd as a special guest of honor. Assemblyman O’Donnell was the first openly gay man elected to the state Assembly.  He represents the Upper West Side of Manhattan and owns a home with his partner in Spencertown.

The event was attended by dozens of supporters who were joined by several elected officials including Common Council President Don Moore, Aldermen Sarah Sterling, Ellen Thurston and Chris Wagoner and Supervisor William Hughes Jr. along with County Coroner candidate Roberta Davis and County Clerk candidate Peter Donahoe.
